A Lifetime of Giving Back

Lunch Bus driver Julian Blumenthal is no stranger to the Greater Chicago Food Depository — he's volunteered there since 1991.

"I liked the physical nature of it," he said of his first experiences repacking produce at the Food Depository's former warehouse location.

Since then, Julian's convictions behind giving back have strengthened. Having served in a wide range of capacities during his 23 years volunteering for the Food Depository, Julian has made service a lifetime commitment.

And it's a commitment he's happy to make.

"The Food Depository is one of the best nonprofits you can find," he said. "They use their volunteers well, and they're constantly improving."

Wanting to extend his contributions to the Food Depository even further, Julian included organization in his will. A supply chain and logistics specialist by trade, he gave this gift with little hesitation, confident that the funds would go directly toward the fight against hunger.

"These donations will be used well," he said. "This money helps volunteers help people."

Julian knows that his contributions — and, by extension, the Food Depository's work — will translate into tangible, measurable impact.

"The ideal situation would be that the need would decrease," he said. "I'd like to get to the point where there's less demand here."
